Sacsayhuaman

This is a very impressive Inca monument (a military complex). The zigzag walls are built of massive stones fitted perfectly, and some of the walls have representations of animals.

Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun) in Cusco

The temple of the Sun was built as astronomical observatory and repository of the gold treasures. After Spain conquered the area, they removed much of the wealth and built the Dominican Church of Santo Domingo, using the stones from the temple. After the 1953 earthquake, the site was restored so that parts of both the church and the original temple can be seen.

Cusco

Cusco, located at 3500m (11,500 ft), was the Inca "Navel of the World", and it is the tourism center. There are a number of jet services between Cusco and Lima, the capital of Peru.

Lima

We only spend a full day in Lima, the capital of Peru, because it was not a major destination for our purposes.  I flew into and out of Lima from Los Angeles while most of the members of the group flew in from Atlanta.  We had a very nice "get-together" dinner at Restaurant Rosa Nautica in Mira Flores.
