Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

is located in Aguas Calientes, a small town from which one can take a 30-minute bus ride up a series of switch backs to the ruins at Machu Picchu.  The Pueblo Hotel consists of a number of small buildings set in a rain forest, and it offers an "orchid trail" where visitors can view native orchids in their natural environment.

Machu Picchu

The ruins were far more impressive and striking than I had anticipated. It's difficult to imagine how the Incas were able to build these fabulous stone structures without metal tools.  Views of the ruins from various locations and also under different light/.weather conditions were spectacular.  There were some orchids - mainly epidendrums, sobralias, and pleurothalis on the site, also.
