Sandakan

Sandakan is a port city located on the northeasten shore of Borneo, and it is the second largest city (after Kota Kinabalu) in the state of Sabah.  It was once the capital of the British North Borneo.

After reaching Sandakan by boat from Salingan Turtle Island, we headed to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary.  After seeing the orangutans fed, we checked into Sabah Hotel where we enjoyed wonderful amenities and as well as a walking tour of the city.

Danum Valley Conservation Area

A long bus ride from Sandakan via town of Lahad Datu to the Danum Valley Conservation Area, the last location on our itinerary, where we would get to relax two nights at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.  We enjoyed a number of short walks among the rainforest looking for wildlife.  We had to take precautions to avoid donating blood to leaches.
