Visits to Germany

I used to visit Darmstadt, a small town near Frankfurt, at least once a year on business from 1989 through 2001.  Often I would take vacation days to visit other parts of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The very first time I drove on the autobahn was very exciting, but unfortunately I had rented a small car then. From the second time on, I made sure to rent a car with fair horsepower so that I could drive fast!  I've managed to see quite a bit of Germany.  Since I retired in 2002, I visited Germany twice more (in 2004 and 2006).

Munich

Munich is a fascinating city.  In fact, it's my favorite big city in Germany, and I've visited there four times.  The inner city is great for sightseeing on foot, and it's full of cultural events.  Although not shown here, Deutches Museum is a wonderful place to visit, too.  I once spent a whole day there.  Also, one can easily make a day trip by train to Füssen to see the Neuschwanstein castle.

Oktoberfest in Munich

Although I have visited Munich a number of times, I attended the Oktoberfest in 2004 for the first time.  It was an interesting experience to say the least.
