| Q I
would like cultural information about Stenocoryne aureo-fulva. I am
interested in general culture (light, temperature, etc.) and whether this
orchid requires a rest period. A Stenocoryne aure-ofulva is a horticultural synonym for Bifrenaria aureo-fulva. This orchid is found in the low, montane rainforests of southern Brazil. It bears multiple, golden-yellow, fragrant flowers. Bifrenaria aureo-fulva needs intermediate to warm conditions (up to 80 F during the day, with a 10-degree drop at night) and plenty of humidity. Water it regularly throughout the year; more heavily when it is in growth, and less after growth matures. However, it does not need a rest period and should not be allowed to dry out completely. It requires bright, indirect light and can be a shy bloomer. Susan Jones, Assistant Editor, American Orchid Society (e-mail sjones@aos.org). |
