Phyrurus Culture

Q I have not been able to find any cultural information for Physurus "herpysmoides." I am told that it is from India, but the person from whom I obtained it cannot remember its cultural needs.

A  Fawcett and Rendle, in their 1910 tibook, Flora of Jamaica, Vol. I, Orchidaceae, list Physurus (nomen nudum for Erythrodes) hirtellus in Jamaica. We grow the aforementioned in the intermediate section of our greenhouse, which has a 65 to 85 F day temperature with a 10-to-15-degree drop at night. It is kept in a moist, well-drained terrestrial mix in partial shade. Physurus hirtellus is as close as we can get to P. herpysmoides. Ann and Phil Jesup, Bristol, Connecticut
