Native Orchids

Q I am interested in wild orchids and in finding people who share my interests. I live in the western part of North Carolina and am having a hard time locating any growers who are informative and helpful.

A  Recently I spoke with Paul Martin Brown, who is enthusiastically involved with many aspects of our native orchids. He is a botanist and also a driving force in the North American Native Orchid Alliance. For more information on this organization, contact Brown at: P0 Box 772121, Ocala, Florida 34477. For additional information, The AOS BookShop stocks a number of readable books on the orchids of North America. Wild Orchids Across North America, by Philip E. Keenan, is comprehensive and fairly priced at $40 (BK6050). For a free booklist of titles carried by The AOS BookShop, contact the International Orchid Center (telephone 561-404-2020; fax 561-404-2100; e-mail TheAOS@aos.org).
