Root-Tip Color

Q Why are some of the new root tips of cattleyas brown or tan and those of others green?

A  The best answer for this one would be that some plants are more highly pigmented than others, and this pigmentation is also manifested in other parts of the plant, including the root tips. This is more pronounced under higher light conditions, and is absent in albino varieties, which lack the red pigment that gives the brownish color. Ned Nash.
