When I purchased the house in 1990, I immediately ripped out the lawn from the front yard as well as the backyard.  I, also, removed most of the overgrown trees - except for the birch tree in the front and the lemon and tangerine trees in the back.   The very first project was to build a trellis and plant a wisteria to create some shade for delicate plants.  It took me about 3 years to "complete" the first version of landscaping.  Since then I have been refining as well as re-doing many parts of the gardens.  I still don't have any lawn; all of the non-planted areas are covered with weed-block cloth and bark mulch.

Front Yard

The spring time is the prettiest time because of the white wisteria that blooms magnificently with a sweet fragrance.

Backyard and Side Yard

I have no lawn in the backyard, and all unplanted areas are covered with weed-block cloth and bark mulch.  I have several flowerbeds, many rose bushes and fruit trees in addition to other annuals and perennials.
