Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima

The Itsukushima Shrine was founded in 593 A.D.  The current shrine is believed to be a 16th century replica of the 12th century structures.  It takes only about an hour to reach Miyajima from Hiroshima JR Station by a local train to Miyajima-guchi and then a ferry (or about 15 minutes directly by a high-speed ferry from the Port of Ujina in Hiroshima).

Seto Ohashi is actually a series of bridges that connects Honshu (the main island of Japan) with Shikoku (the fourth largest island in Japan). Completed in 1988, it spans 13.1km (8.2 miles) over 5 smaller islands. It is a double-decker bridge with the lower deck having two train tracks and the upper deck for vehicles - two lanes for each direction.
